Big gig as Byo’s Skyz Metro FM turns 1

BULAWAYO’s first commercial radio station , Skyz Metro FM, will, on Saturday, host  a musical gala as part of the station’s 1st anniversary celebrations.
The station’s manger, Godwin Phiri, said several artists including foreign and local based ones, will be performing at the show which will be held at White City stadium in the city.
Some of the musicians expected to grace the anniversary celebrations include South Africa Kwaito guru, Mkhonzeni Langa aka Professor, Kwaito group STIFF, Busi Ncube, and Jays Marabini.
“On Saturday, we will be celebrating the birth of Bulawayo’s only radio station in style. We have invited a wide range of musicians including young and upcoming artists to provide quality entertainment to our valued listeners.
The show will start at 6pm and spill to the early hours of Sunday 26, August,” said Phiri in an interview with New Zimbabwe.
Phiri said by hosting the musical extravagance, Skzy metro FM is showing its appreciation and gratitude to the people of Bulawayo who have supported the station in various ways.
“We are really touched by the amazing manner in which the Bulawayo community are supporting our station. We would like to thank everyone including the business community for supporting us. We believe we have got the resolve to match our competitors,” said Phiri.
Phiri said preparations for the show are almost complete with the PA system having already been secured.
“We would also like to assure revellers that there will be tight security. We will also be broadcasting some segments live on radio,” said Phiri.
Tickets for the show will be sold at $5.
Skyz Metro FM started broadcasting in September last year.
