Billiat to miss start of SA season

KHAMA Billiat will miss the start of the new season for champions Mamelodi Sundowns as he is still hobbling around on crutches after breaking his foot last season.
It is expected it will be at least two more months before he is able to take to the field for the club.
Sundowns’ record breaking signing last season has not played since February 21 when he suffered the injury in the Nedbank Cup tie against his former club Ajax Cape Town.
It was a left foot bone fracture that was initially suggested would heal quickly but Billiat remains unable to train.
The Zimbabwe international hopes to have the cast removed in the next 10 days to step up his rehabilitation.
“He hopes to get back to fitness soon,” said Sundowns’ website, failing to give any precise detail.
The 23-year-old cost Sundowns a reported R8-million from Ajax Cape Town at the start of last season, scoring six goals in 19 starts for the club in all competitions as the Brazilians claimed their first league title since the 2006/07 season.
Billiat’s predicament mirrors that of his international compatriot Knowledge Musona, whose ankle injury from the end of last season persists and sees him now undergoing rehabilitation in Germany while a possible return to Kaizer Chiefs is in limbo.Advertisement
