FC PLATINUM team are exuding confidence ahead of their clash against Harare giants Caps United in the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Charity Shield final scheduled for September 6.
Captain Daniel Vheremu who led FC Platinum to a 2-1 defeat of Caps United after a very long time early this year, said he was happy to lead his team to that famous victory and was looking forward to beating them again.
“After that victory we want to show them we can beat them again. We are ready to face them,” Vheremu said during a press conference in Harare on Thursday.
Team manager Joseph Mususa added: “It will be a battle for the green colour against Caps United.
“We want to show them that we have grown big enough to beat any team.”
The FC Platinum manager who attended the press conference alongside Vheremu said they were taking the match so serious that their head coach Norman Mapeza had stayed behind in Zvishavane to oversee preparations.
“We are taking this match so serious to the extent that our head coach has remained in Zvishavane to prepare for this particular match. We want to assemble our best arsenal for this match,” said Mususa.
For his part, Caps United coach Taurai Mangwiro said they would also approach the game like any other top flight encounter.
“We are taking this match seriously like any other match. We are doing it for charity and its one of our obligations as Caps United to plough back into the community,” said Mangwiro.
His captain Tapiwa Khumbuyani said as defending champions they were ready to defend their trophy which they won last year after beating Black Rhinos.
This time the ZNA Charity shield involved four teams with Highlanders and Dynamos being the other teams involved.
Dynamos were booted out by Caps United 1-0 while Highlanders suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of FC Platinum to crash out of the tournament.
Khumbuyani believes the addition of the other two teams this year has made it competitive.
“The addition of the other teams has made it competitive and we are ready as Caps United to defend the trophy,” he said.
ZNA spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel, Alphios Makotore, said the prize money for the winners and runners will be advised at a later stage.
