CAPS United are fretting over the fitness of chief striker Leonard Tsipa ahead of the Harare derby against bitter rivals Dynamos on Sunday.
The Green Machine coach Lloyd Chitembwe told reporters at a press conference on Thursday, the big striker was battling a knock picked up at training this week.
“Our only worry is the injury to Leonard Tsipa,” said Chitembwe.
“He has a knock which he picked at training. So we are monitoring him but I am sure he should be able to shrug off the injury by Sunday.”
United go into the match seeking to end their poor run in a league match against Dynamos stretching back to 2009 when a Nyasha Mushekwi double sealed victory for the Green Machine.
Chitembwe was in charge then but he refuses to be drawn into history saying that was for the archives.
He said they would try to go and secure victory against their rivals.
“History should be left for the archives. We will just try to go out there and do well. I believe we have got quality in our squad. We have got some special players that can see us break the Dynamos jinx.
“The players have been fantastic at training. They are pumped up. We are spoilt for choice, all of the 25 players we have are eager to play on Sunday.
“I can’t really wait to see the players perform at a big stage on Sunday.”
Chitembwe added: “This is a very important fixture in many ways.
“We have been psyching up the players, they now know what is at stake in terms of opportunities for their careers. I expect a good game.”
Caps have been struggling for goals upfront and drew their last two matches against Harare City 0-0 and Flame Lily (1-1).
Dynamos will be without key defender Elisha Muroiwa who is serving suspension for accumulating three yellow cards.
Dynamos coach Tonderai Ndiraya acknowledged that they faced an important fixture.
“It’s a challenge to be facing Caps United coming from a defeat in the Chibuku Super Cup,” said Ndiraya.
“We have been psyching up the players so that they get over the disappointment of losing to Harare City in the Chibuku Super Cup.
“We have a good record against Caps United and we want to try and maintain that dominance.”
Dynamos are six points off the mark in the title race but remain confident they still have an outside chance of lifting the title. The two teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture.Advertisement
