CAPS United’s Castle Lager Premiership tie against How Mine at the National Sports Stadium on Wednesday has been thrown into doubt amid reports that the Green Machine have three players in the national team.
The Warriors are in camp ahead of their African Nations Championship, second leg qualifier against Namibia on Sunday and PSL rules allow a club to decide whether to play or cancel the match under the circumstances.
The Zimbabwe champions have Ronald ‘Rooney’ Chitiyo, striker Abbas Amidu and midfielder Moses Muchenje in the national team.
Caps United assistant coach Fungai “Tostao” Kwashi hinted that the match could be postponed.
“We are not sure whether the match will go ahead; we don’t have the official position as yet. We have got three players in the national team and a decision is yet to be made,” he said.
PSL chief executive Kenny Ndebele could not be reached for comment.
If the match is cancelled, it will be the second time in a week after the Harare derby which had been scheduled for last week was also deferred for the same reasons.
United are also scheduled to make the trip to face Bulawayo City as they play catch up having been preoccupied with the African Champions League assignment.
They have played just nine games while others have played 16 matches in the campaign thus far.Advertisement
