CAPS United coach Taurai Mangwiro said they will take the ZNA Charity Shield final as a step in retaining their fading “Cup Kings” status.
The Harare giants meet in the final FC Platinum on 6 September at Mandava Stadium.
On the same weekend, Highlanders and Dynamos would be tussling each other in the inaugural TM Pick n Pay Challenge Cup at the National Sports Stadium.
Mangwiro said they are taking the ZNA Charity Shield seriously and bring back old days they were known for hauling every trophy on offer.
“We want this Shield to be a step in us reclaiming our old status as Cup Kings. We really need it,” Mangwiro said.
“We already have the Zambezi Challenge Trophy we won in Malawi and that was good for us. Winning it will also bring the much-needed confidence in our league campaign. There is a lot at stake here. We want out old place in Zimbabwean football.”
In securing passage to the final of the Charity Shield, Caps United saw off traditional rivals Dynamos 1-0 in the semifinals.
“Yes it is good that we beat Dynamos after a long time and that has made the boys believe we can beat anyone. We will do our best against FC Platinum,” Mangwiro said.
United are also chasing the PSL title they last won in 2005.
