KEY Caps United key players Hardlife Zvirekwi, George Nyirenda and left-back Carlton Munzabwa are facing a fit race ahead of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League showdown against Harare City at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday.
The trio failed to make the trip to Mozambique where Caps United edged Chingale de Tete 2-1 in an international friendly match at Estadio do Tete on Sunday owing to injuries.
Mark Mathe, who took over as coach of the Harare giants following the departure of Mark Harrison, said the three players had joined the squad and were now doing light training and were expected to pass a late fitness test.
“We have three players injured and might not feature against Harare City on Saturday,” said Mathe.
“We have Hardlife Zvirekwi, George Nyirenda and Carlton Munzabwa who are all injured.
“We couldn’t take them to Mozambique because they were injured. But now they are doing some light training. They will have to pass a late fitness test.”
His assistant Brenna Msiska described the clash against Harare City as a difficult contest.
“It is going to be a very difficult match,” he said.
“Harare City have been playing well before the break. They were very consistent and they will be difficult to break down. But we are ready for them.
“We have prepared well during the break and the practice match we played in
Mozambique helped us a lot. The players are in good shape.”
The match is one of the two ties that will be screened live on SuperSport. The big clash between Dynamos and Highlanders on Sunday will also be screened live.
Mathe was at Highlanders last season after taking over from Kelvin Kaindu but parted ways with the club following a run of poor results at the end of the season.
He then joined Caps United this season and had been working as an assistant to British coach Mark Harrison.
Harrison however, quit the club to take up a new coaching job in Botswana with Township Rollers last week
