CAPS U-turn on former Bosso coach Mathe

CAPS United have made a U-turn on former Highlanders coach Mark Mathe and revealed Thursday that he is one of the candidates earmarked for the vacant assistant coaching position at the Harare giants.
Club chief executive Joe Makuvire told reporters during a press conference in Harare that they had a vacancy for an assistant coach.
“We have a vacancy for an assistant coach and Mathe is one of the candidates,” said Makuvire.
“We are still waiting for the arrival of the head coach Mark Harrison. He has been given permission to work in Zimbabwe today and we are now working on logistics to have him come and start work. We expect him to be here in Harare on Friday.”
Mathe had been spotted at the Caps United training ground at RBZ Sports club on Tuesday, raising suspicion he had joined their technical team.
He was reported to have agreed a three-year deal but Makuvire denied the reports. He said while Mathe was a very good coach they already had Mark Harrison as their head coach.
“I hear he was at our training ground RBZ Sports Club but the official position is that we have Mark Harrison as our coach,” said Makuvire.
“Mathe is a very good coach by any standards but we have the Englishman as our coach. We are just waiting for him to arrive from South Africa.
“Once his work permit is out he will be with us.”
Mathe was Highlanders coach last season but he was fired at the end after a run of dreadful results.
He has been club-less since and his presence at the Caps United training sessions had fuelled speculation he could be joining the Green Machine technical bench.
Meanwhile, Harrison has remained in South African since he was unveiled as Caps United coach on January 7.
The coach’s continued absence had been worrying the Caps United hierarchy with reports suggesting the 54 year-old had not been cleared by his former club Black Leopards of South Africa.
Leopards were said to be contemplating taking a legal action following his abrupt and unilateral termination of his contract with the team.Advertisement
