CARA Black and Indian playing partner Sania Mirza progressed to Round 2 of the women’s doubles at the French Open Thursday.
The fifth seeds needed only an hour and nine minutes to beat the Slovak-Israeli pair of Daniela Hantuchova and Shahar Peer 6-3, 6-3 on Court No.11 at Roland Garros.
Service games were broken regularly by both combinations throughout the match but Cara and Sania made sure they broke their opponents more number of times, ensuring a straight sets win.
They will next take on Canadian-Polish pairing of Gabriela Dabrowski and Alicja Rosolska in the second round.
Cara is yet to win in the women’s doubles at Roland Garros having only gone as far as the semi-finals on a number of occasions.
This year she is also playing in the mixed doubles with Colombian Robert Farah. They made it through to the second round after winning 6-4, 6-4 against Russian Alla Kudryavtseva and her partner Treat Huey of the Philippines.
Cara won the French Open mixed doubles in 2002 when playing with brother, Wayne.Advertisement
