CHAN Finals: Pasuwa says worried by Warriors ‘illpreparedness’

WARRIORS coach Kalisto Pasuwa says he is worried by the ill preparedness of the team ahead of the African Nations Championship (Chan) tournament to be held in Kigali Rwanda next week after ZIFA failed to secure a friendly match before the competition.
“If you look at it we are the only team in our group which has not played a friendly match. We have also faced disruptions after breaking camp for a week. In the last campaign, we utilised the whole six weeks programme but now we haven’t prepared well. That is my major concern because we needed at least one friendly match,” said Pasuwa.
Chan Group D members have set the pace in fine tuning their teams ahead of the tournament while Zimbabwe has failed to secure a friendly match which would have been a dress rehearsal for the competition.
Zambia are in the same group with Zimbabwe and the two neighbouring countries face off in the opening group match on January 19.
Zambia have set up camp in South Africa as they ready for the tournament designed exclusively for home-based players.
Chipolopolo, as they are affectionately known, are also scheduled to fine tune their squad with a date against Mamelodi Sundowns Junior team.
Uganda, who are also Zimbabwe’s Group D opponents, played Gabon in their preparatory match on Sunday while west African side Mali, also in the same group, played Angola.
Uganda will take on Cameroon on Wednesday while hosts Rwanda played against DRC on Sunday.
The Chan tournament in Rwanda runs from January 16 to February 7.
Initially, the Warriors had been scheduled to play Cameroon, but the match was postponed as Zimbabwe had broken camp after Pasuwa had been fired by his employers before he was reinstated.
Efforts to engage Mozambique appear to have hit a brick wall.
Zimbabwe reached the semi-finals at the last edition of the tournament held in South Africa. Ian Gorowa was in charge of that team, while Pasuwa was Assistant.
The Warriors are expected to leave for Rwanda on Friday.Advertisement
