CHAN Finals: Zambian defender says wary of Zimbabwe

ZAMBIA defender Christopher Munthali believes Zimbabwe will be their biggest threat in Group D at next month’s 2016 Caf African Nations Championship (Chan) in Rwanda.
The two teams will meet in a trans-Zambezi Group D derby in their opening fixture at the tournament on January 19.
“I think Zimbabwe will give us problems because we have met several times and we play almost the same kind of football, but I think we are better than them,” Munthali said.
The meeting is set to be a grudge match following Zambia’s painful elimination from the 2014 Chan qualifiers at the hands of Zimbabwe in 2013 who beat them 1-0 on aggregate to reach the South Africa finals.
That two-legged meeting saw Zambia lose 1-0 at home in their final leg to record their first-ever defeat in Ndola in over 40 years.
Uganda and Mali are the other teams in Group D whom Zambia will face on January 23 and 27 respectively.
Meanwhile, Munthali added that the team were obliged to make it to the knockout round in Rwanda after a 2015 that saw Chipolopolo, the Under-23, Under-20 and Under-17 teams all fail to make it out of the group stage of their respective Caf tournaments they qualified for this year.Advertisement
