LOG leaders Chicken Inn can win the championship on Saturday with a game to spare if they beat Harare City and FC Platinum stumble against Harare giants Caps United at Mandava.
Joey Antipas’ men lead the standings with 55 points, FC Platinum trail by two points with only two matches left in the campaign.
Up next for Chicken Inn is Harare City on Saturday, they then finish off the campaign with a date against Flame Lily at a bumpy Lafarge Stadium.
FC Platinum on 53 points welcome Caps United at Mandava and then face off already relegated Dongo in their final game of the season.
But if Chicken Inn win against the Sunshine City Boys and FC Platinum draw or lose against Caps United, the GameCocks will be crowned champions with a game to spare.
They will take their points tally to 58 and even if FC Platinum win their final match against Dongo they can only manage 56 points.
In the event that FC Platinum draw against the Green Machine and Chicken Inn win against Harare City, Joey Antipas’ men will still be crowned champions because the best Norman Mapeza could do is to finish on 57 points one behind Chicken Inn in that scenario.
But despite the permutations indicating that Antipas could win his second championship on Saturday since 2010 when he lifted it with Motor Action, the coach says it is still difficult to talk about winning the championship.
“If you ask me, we could have loved to win this championship with two or three games remaining but football is very unpredictable,” said Antipas.
“For sure, the results haven’t been coming our way of late but it’s not over yet. If we are meant to take this championship, we will take it.
“Winning the league title is not an easy thing. It takes a lot of determination and focus. The pressure is always there and it’s even worse at this time of the season. So we need to put in some hard work.
“We have got some really tight fixtures coming up in the remaining two games and we hope to turn up.”
