Chicken Inn edge Bosso 2-1 to lift Uhuru Cup

DEFENDING League champions Chicken Inn edged rivals Highlanders 2-1 in an exhilarating final at the National Sports Stadium on Monday to lift their first Independence Trophy since their promotion into the elite league in 2011.
The GameCocks, winners of the league title last term at the expense of the country’s Big Three Dynamos, Highlanders and Caps, have been in evident form this season as they are unbeaten in all ties.
Their performance so far has given fans a glimpse of what they can expect this season.
Having beaten both Dynamos and Highlanders so far, they look set to successfully defend their title which will see them joining the exclusive club of teams that have managed to win back to back titles. Only the Big Three have managed that feat in the history of the league.
Joey Antipas’ men had to come from the behind after Bosso had raced into the lead on 20 minutes through Bruce Kangwa, a left back who was playing in an unfamiliar attacking role.
Kangwa beat an offside trap to score with a low shot sending Highlanders fans into celebration.
Their lead was, however, temporary as Chicken Inn refused to be cowed into submission. They launched a wave after wave attack into Highlanders’ goal area and veteran Obadiah Tarumbwa, a former Bosso player, drilled home on 28 minutes to level matters.
The equaliser gave Chicken Inn the confidence they desperately needed.
Highlanders though kept piling on the pressure in search of a lead with King Nadolo coming close. But inform forward Mitchell Katsvairo decided the contest on 67 minutes when he unleashed a scorcher that gave the Bosso goalkeeper no chance.
