CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League log leaders Chicken Inn will be ready for the challenge posed by giants Dynamos when the two sides meet in a top-of the table clash at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday, skipper Danny ‘Deco’ Phiri has said.
The Bulawayo side now come up against the unbeaten league champions and Phiri conceded that Sunday’s tie represented a formidable test for Chicken Inn whose only other trip to the capital this year produced their only defeat of the campaign, a 2-0 loss to Harare City.
“When you are playing Dynamos, the good run is irrelevant. Playing Dynamos is always a challenge, no matter the circumstances. I feel though that we are ready for any challenge this season.
“Last year we had a number of new players and it took us time to get to understand each other, but things are falling into place now and the team is gelling well.
“We have a good mix of youth and experience. Young players like George (Majika) and Chirambadare have been listening to advice and helping a lot,” Phiri said.
Deco, a defensive linkman, will miss the match after being red-carded in the victory over How Mine, a development that could leave his side vulnerable to the danger posed by on-fire Dynamos midfielder Ronald Chitiyo.
Chitiyo has played crucial roles in three of Dynamos’ four victories to date. His goals secured the identical 1-0 victories over Dongo Mills and Chapungu. It was also his cross which was turned in by Dominic Chungwa to for another 1-0 win over Flame Lilly.
Phiri however, said he was not bothered: “We don’t look at individuals because he (Chitiyo) doesn’t play alone. We look at the team as a whole. We are going there just to play our game without bothering ourselves about names.”
“I have played against Chitiyo and I know he is good player, but what happens in football is that each member of the team has to raise his game and if we can do that then we stand a good chance on Sunday,” he concluded.
