CHICKEN Inn captain Danny Phiri is doubtful for Saturday’s PSL crunch opener against Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium due to a muscle strain.
Phiri who started the year injured resulting in him missing the Chan tournament returned to action in February in the Caf Champions League against South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns.
But he appeared to have aggravated his injury when he lasted the entire match in a 2017 Afcon qualifier in Swaziland on Good Friday before coming on as a second half substitute at home on Monday.
Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas said his holding midfielder is racing against time to be fit for Saturday’s game and will have to pass a late fitness test.
“Danny came back here complaining about a muscle strain and he has been taking it easy to try and recover. We will have to wait and hear what the doctors say,” Antipas said.
“We hope recovers on time for the game. You know we are playing Dynamos and they want to start on a high note.
“They are a big team and remember they really want to get back to their old position as champions. We are a team to beat obviously after how we played last season.”
The Dynamos match will see Chicken Inn beginning their title defence after claiming their maiden league title last season.
It would be a grudge confrontation as Dynamos will be seeking to revenge on Chicken Inn who dethroned them as champions last term.Advertisement
