Tsholotsho 1-1 Chicken Inn
Hwange 2-4 Highlanders
CHICKEN Inn maintained top spot in the Castle Lager Premiership race on Wednesday when they fought, like they have done in the last few matches, from a goal down to snatch a point against Tsholotsho at White City Stadium.
With second placed FC Platinum conceding a late equaliser against Flame Lily at Larfarge, the draw was enough to see Chicken Inn maintain their two point lead with 55 points ahead of Saturday’s potential dicey affair against inconsistent Harare City at Luveve Stadium.
Platinum are on 53 points while Dynamos remained third after a 1-2 away win over already relegated Dongo Sawmill at Vengere in Rusape.
Simbarashe Gorogodyo gave Tsholotsho the lead in the first minute of first half added time, but that did not last as Chicken Inn equalised six minutes after the breather through Mitchelle Katsvairo.
Try as they did in the second half, the winning goal could not materialise for Chicken Inn, but they will be content with keeping Platinum under check.
Platinum host red hot Caps United at Mandava on Saturday.
From Week 28, the most surprising result was certainly at the Colliery.
With just 35 minutes played, Highlanders were already 3-0 against the hosts Hwange after Ralph Matema had opened the scoring.
Highlanders boss Colliery
In-form striker Knox Mutizwa then added his name on the score sheet for his 13th goal of the season and then turned provider in the 35th minute as Matema completed his double.
But Hwange were not dead yet.
Innocent Mucheneka pulled one back after the start before he was denied from close range by goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda.
Then David Boriwondo made in 3-2 in the 77th minute to set up an enthralling finale as Hwange poured forward in search of the equaliser only to find Sibanda the stumbling block.
And as they went in search of the leveller, Hwange opened gaps at the back and Mutizwa, for goal number 14 of the season, duly punished them to seal a resounding victory, and Bosso’s best away win this season.
On Sunday, they are at home to Tsholotsho and they will round up the 2015 season at home again against Sunday Chidzambwa’s ZPC Kariba.
Highlanders now have 38 points, the same as Harare City and Chapungu and they are certainly looking for a strong finish to the season after firing coach Bongani Mafu mid-season.Advertisement
Whawha became the second team after Dongo to be relegated, also after just one season in the league, when they dew 1-1 against Harare City.
The Gweru-based side can only reach a maximum of 28 points, not enough to save them from the chop.
