CHICKEN Inn warmed up to their trip to Harare for a date with Caps United with a 1-0 victory over a plucky Hwange in a midweek tie at Luveve Stadium on Thursday.
Defender Passmore Bernard was the hero for the Gamecocks, after deciding the contest from the penalty spot.
Wilfred Murweyi was adjudged to have illegally brought down Ishmael Lawe as he charged towards goal on 60 minutes and the referee pointed to the spot.
The former Motor Action defender stepped up to take responsibility and made no mistake from the resultant spot kick for the Gamecocks to collect maximum points.
The victory lifted Rahman Gumbo’s men to seventh position on the league table with 31points.
Crucially, the victory will lift their spirits as they travel to the capital to face the Green Machine.
On the other hand, Caps United who now trail log leaders FC Platinum by just one point after edging David Mandigira’s Triangle at Gibbo Stadium last weekend will be hoping to secure maximum points to keep in check with the log leaders as the league marathon staggers towards the finishing line.
The Harare giants last won the championship way back in 2005 when they lifted back to back league titles in 2004 and 2005 under Charles Mhlauri. They now believe this could be their year.
