Chidzambga confident as Warriors stars troop in for Congo show-down

By Leopold Munhende

HARARE: A full strength Zimbabwe Warriors squad will do battle away to Congo Brazzaville in their 2019 AFCON qualifier at Stade Alphonse Massamba-Debat in Brazzaville on Sunday.

Despite the absence of Marvelous Nakamba and defence stalwart Costa Nhamoinesu, the arrival of Nyasha Mushekwi and Wales based Alec Mudimu who will join training Wednesday alongside captain, Knowledge Musona and America-based Lucky Mkosana who attended training Tuesday gives Zimbabweans a ray of hope against a tricky Congo side.

Speaking to journalists before their first training session on building on the 3-0 win over Liberia last year, coach Sunday Chidzambga said that they were approaching this match with caution.

“That was a different ball game all together; and this is not Liberia. Congo are a very strong side, one of the strongest sides in Africa.

“We hope are going to be able to play hard and come up with a positive results,” said Chidzambga.

On the missing players, Chidzambga said that he has enough arsenal to bring a positive result home.

“I think we have enough replacements for the few players that were called up to the squad but failed to pitch up because of injury,” he added.

Absa premiership star, Khama Billiat was involved in some light training sessions and has to pass a late fitness test to ascertain whether or not he will have a part to play on Sunday.

“I do not really know how far I am with my treatment so far but I am sure the result from Congo will be a positive one,” said Khama.

With Billiat, Musona, Kudakwashe Mahachi, Talent Chawapiwa and George Chigova in the fold, Zimbabwe has greater chances of coming out of Congo’s home ground with a smile on their faces.

The match which will be beamed live on Super Sport TV on Sunday at 1630 hours local time is the second fixture of the group.

Zimbabwe tops the group on goal difference after dismissing Liberia 3-0 in the first game.

Congo lost to the DRC 3-1 in its first game.
