FORMER Police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri has been dragged to court by a Bulawayo woman who is demanding $240,000 towards the support of a child she claims to have sired with the one-time top cop.
According to a notice published in the State media, Sithulisiwe Mthimukulu wants a once-off payment from the former police boss.
“Take note that on the 9th of April at 8am an application shall be heard wherein Applicant will be seeking an order for lumpsum maintenance in the sum of $240,000 for the minor child Shanine Mthimukulu, born on 3 July 2009,” Mthimukhulu said through her lawyer Godfrey Nyoni of Moyo and Nyoni Legal Practitioners.
The woman, a former subordinate to Chihuri, warns the once-powerful police chief to either respond or face a default judgement.
“Further, note that if you desire to oppose her application you will need to file your opposing papers before the above stated date and to appear before the magistrate for an inquiry into the claim,” the lawyers said
Nyoni confirmed it was indeed Chihuri who was being sued for abandoning his offspring. The lawyer said Chihuri had defaulted in the payment of US$3,655 per term for school fees, US$349 in monthly medical aid, and US$650 as monthly maintenance.
The attorney did not say when Chihuri started defaulting on the payments.
The long serving police chief, who is yet to respond, lost his lofty position following former President Robert Mugabe’s fall in November last year.
He was replaced with his deputy, Godwin Matanga.
