Contract talks between Katsande and Kaizer Chiefs drag on

GOAL can exclusively reveal that Kaizer Chiefs are hoping to conclude contract talks with Willard Katsande before the Christmas break.
Amakhosi tabled an improved offer for the midfielder earlier this year, but he is yet to commit, and according to a source within the club’s camp, Katsande could sign on the dotted line no later than this month.
The Zimbabwe international is approaching the final six months of his current deal with Chiefs, and the Soweto giants are not prepared to lose him.
“Katsande hasn’t signed a new deal, but he’s not the only player whose contract is coming to an end next year. The club is hoping to put the matter to bed before the Christmas break,” the source told Goal.
Katsande has been an integral member of the Amakhosi team for the past five seasons, and continues to play a pivotal role in that squad as one of the senior players.
Chiefs are not willing to risk losing their midfield kingpin in the near future, especially after making wholesale changes at the start of the campaign.
The 29-year-old will be eligible to sign a pre-contract with a team of his choice in January should he fail to agree terms on a new contract with his current employers before the end of this year.
He was once linked with a move abroad, but those reports turned out to be just speculation as he remained at Chiefs.Advertisement
