COVID-19: Old Mutual Zimbabwe Avails ZWL$2b Cover For Health Professionals

OLD Mutual Zimbabwe has availed ZWL$2 billion dollars to help health professionals, who are on the frontline of fighting the coronavirus pandemic, to access life insurance cover.

A number of individuals, companies and universities in Zimbabwe have also joined the fight against coronavirus and will also benefit from the scheme, Old Mutual announced this Thursday.

Zimbabwe has 11 confirmed cases of coronavirus including three deaths.

“We join the fight against the COVID-19 virus by availing ZWL$ 2 billion worth of cover to health professionals on the front line in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic for a period of 6 months,’’ the company said.

The package is to cover the life of health professionals for the period April 2020 to 30 September 2020.

Old Mutual said priority was to safeguard health professionals as they battle to save the lives of Zimbabweans and prevent the spread of the deadly virus. It will also provide personal protective equipment to staff at public hospitals.

“We have taken steps to support the front line medical staff fighting the coronavirus and bolster innovations capacity in the tertiary institutions to address immediate and long term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The group will provide healthcare to staff at Harare Hospital and at Thorngrove Hospital in Bulawayo with protective gear and will assist Africa University in Mutare and Enactus at Chinhoyi University of Science and Technology to ramp up production of sanitisers and face masks respectively,”

Meanwhile, Old Mutual chief executive Sam Matsekete also announced that together with their banking subsidiary, CABS, they would put a further ZWL $3.5 million towards fighting coronavirus in the country.
