Dembare, Bosso in identical home defeats, fans demand Chigowe exit

By Sports Reporter

FADING premiership giants Dynamos and Highlanders suffered identical 1-0 home defeats in two Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matches played in Harare and Bulawayo Monday.

Pressure continues to mount on under-fire Dynamos coach Lloyd Chigowe following their third successive loss to minnows Herentals at Rufaro Stadium.

Dynamos went into the match hoping for a change of fortunes against winless Herentals after a dismal start to the season which saw them also lose to rivals Highlanders in the Independence Cup Trophy on April 18.

Their only win this season came against newly promoted basement side Mushowani Stars.

In the end it was yet another frustrating day for DeMbare as the club’s fans made their anger at Chigowe clear during the disastrous afternoon.

Chigowe, who took over from Lloyd Mutasa last season was at the centre of the Rufaro as Juan Mutudza’s 86th minute goal gave Herentals their first victory in this campaign at the expense of the Glamour Boys.

Herentals were clearly the better side throughout the game and could have scored earlier with Blessing Majarira agonisingly missing the target just after the half hour.

DeMbare also had a fair share of chances but none was threatening except the 16th-minute header from a corner-kick by Munyaradzi Mawadza which was cleared off the line. Ngandu Mangala also made some good runs but failed to find the net.

And the frustration from the stands over the abysmal results saw Blues fans’ annoyance boil over when the DR Congo-born striker was substituted for Nigel Katawa at the hour mark.

Armed police details had to intervene to quell the ensuing situation after the match as fuming supporters demanded Chigowe’s resignation.

Speaking to journalists after the match, Dynamos assistant coach, Murape Murape said his team played well in the second half, but lady luck was just not on their side.

“We played well, but we could not utilise the chances that came our way. As for those demanding our resignation, when you are given a job what’s left is for you to leave,” said a visibly livid Murape.

He added, “Most of the players we have lack the Dynamos character but I still have confidence that we will improve.”

Meanwhile, Highlanders failed to register their first league win in their fourth attempt after succumbing to a 1-0 loss to visiting Triangle United at Barbourfields Stadium.

Bosso have only managed two points this season after draws against Black Rhinos and CAPS United in addition to a loss against Harare City.

Their frustrating start to the season continued after Nyasha Chintuli scored the only goal of the match in the 27th minute to secure maximum points for the Taurai Mangwiro-coached Triangle side.

Elsewhere, Stephen Sibanda scored the solitary goal for Manica Diamonds as they edged fellow league newcomers Mushowani Stars at Gibbo Stadium.
