Chicken Inn 0-1 Dynamos
RODRECK Mutuma kept Dynamos in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League race when he converted after just 10 minutes as the defending champions edged leaders Chicken Inn at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
This was Dynamos’ first win over Chicken Inn since 2011 in Bulawayo and comes as sweet revenge after the leaders walloped champions 3-0 in the reverse fixture in May when they were still under David Mandigora.
Following the win, Dynamos are now on 45 points, the same as second placed FC Platinum, who drew 0-0 at Luveve on Saturday.
Platinum remained second on better goal difference as they have scored 42 goals, compared to Dynamos’ 29.
Chicken Inn are on 49 points with six games left to play.
Mutuma has been finding the going tough since his return to Dynamos from Caps United in the mid-season transfer window, but finally came right at the most crucial moment for the defending champions.
Coach Tonderayi Ndiraya told the media after the win: “We needed the win to keep the pressure on Chicken Inn and I am happy that the boys have responded well after that loss to Platinum.
“We just need to keep picking up points and see what happens in the next six games.”
Chicken Inn coach, Joey Antipas, said two losses in a row had sapped the energy from his boys but is confident they will bounce back.
“We lost to Chapungu (in the Chibuku Super Cup quarterfinals) and now Dynamos, but the fight goes on. We will recover; we still have six games to play until the end of the season,” said.
In other matches, Hwange pushed Dongo Sawmill close to Division One football when they beat them 1-0 at Vengere Stadium in Rusape.
Midfielder Innocent Mucheneka scored the winner for Hwange on the hour.
At Ascot, How Mine and Whawha drew 0-0.
