A LATE goal by striker Tawanda Macheke helped Dynamos to overcome a battling Mutare City 1-0 in a Castle Lager Premiership tie at Vengere Stadium on Sunday.

The Glamour Boys came into the match eager to make amends after having suffered a dispiriting 3-0 defeat to Triangle.

And they had substitute Macheke to thank after he bundled the ball into the nets eight minutes from full time.

Dynamos assistant coach Lloyld Chigove who is in charge of the team in the absence of Lloyd Mutasa who is in South Africa with the national team was relieved with the win.

“We are relieved after the win as we were coming from a 3-0 defeat against Triangle but we have repaid our fans with a win. We created more chances than them but they lost concentration at the end of the match and we scored,” he said.

Rovers interim gaffer Ndenga Matsika was disappointed with the result.

“We lost focus at the end of the match and we conceded a late goal, but otherwise we played well and now we are going to the drawing board, l think today we needed just a point,” he said.

“We are travelling to Bulawayo in our next match and we are hoping to come up with a positive result and we want to survive the dreaded chop,” he said.

The match started on a slow note with both sides weighing each other but it was Dynamos who had their first chance in the 16th minute but striker Cleopas Kapupurika fluffed the chance with only Tafadzwa Dube to beat.

Three minutes later Kapupurika set up Quality Kangadzi but failed to beat Dube.

Veteran striker Washington Pakamisa also had a chance to put the home side ahead but headed wide in the 23th minute.

Dynamos goalkeeper Simbarashe Chinani came to the rescue of his side after making an acrobatic save from striker David Mangesi in the 35th minute.

In the 40th minute Kangadzi exchanged passes with Kapupurika who missed a sitter with only Dube at his disposal.

Rovers had a good start in the second half after Pakamisa who is a former Dynamos player set up Brian Chinhoyi who shot wide from a close range in the 53th minute.

However, Dynamos’ prayers were answered in the 82nd minute when second half substitute Macheke thrust them into the lead after taking advantage of a defensive lapse in concentration to score from close range.
