WARRIORS coach Ian Gorowa has revealed his disappointment with Kaizer Chiefs pair of midfielder Willard Katsande and striker Kingston Nkatha.
The players failed to turn up for training ahead of the trip to Tanzania for the 2015 African Cup of Nations first round first leg qualifier in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.
Katsande, who had a stellar season at his club, is in the running for the Player of the Season and Players Player of the Year awards which are set for Sunday.
The pair had been included in the Warriors squad that began preparations for the qualifiers on Tuesday.
Katsande had said he was travelling by road and had been expected to report for duty on Tuesday but he later told team manager Sharriff Mussa he had fallen sick and could not make it.
“He has been ruled out. He told us he has fallen sick so we have called up Kuda Musharu of How Mine, Black Rhinos’ Wonder Kapinda as replacements,” said Mussa.
But the withdrawal of the Kaizer Chiefs pair at the last minute appears to have angered Gorowa.
“Katsande, we don’t know where he is. He was supposed to be here. We called him up but it’s something that we need to discuss as a technical team,” Gorowa said.
“When I spoke to his manager at Kaizer Chiefs he assured me that Katsande would be available but he is not here. I think football has to go on.
“It’s a national team and I think we have a wider range where we can pick players from. We look at players who are committed, who want to die for the nation.
“I think we saw Cuthbert (Malajila) coming in, we saw Tendai (Ndoro) coming in; it shows a lot of commitment. Washington (Arubi) is here, Simba (Sithole) is here, I think that is sense of commitment.
“I am just disappointed with Katsande, we had given him a chance. I think the other coaches said he can’t play for them but we said he must be here by Monday.”
Gorowa’s attacking options have also been limited with Nkatha ruled out because of injury.
The team is expected to leave for Tanzania on Friday.Advertisement
