Double boost for Highlanders

HIGHLANDERS received a major boost on Wednesday when strikers Thomas Chideu and Simba Sithole trained with the first team ahead of their Castle Lager Premiership encounter with Hwange at Barbourfields Stadium on Easter Friday.
Chideu has been struggling with injury since last week’s game against Tsholotsho and even skipped the Young Warriors before his return to training.
Sithole has not played this season and will be looking for a start in a Highlanders side decimated by injuries.
Knox Mutizwa, Ozias Zibande, Rahman Kutsanzira, King Nadolo, Obadiah Tarumbwa and Teenage Hadebe are all out injured.
“I’m happy Chideu and Simba Sithole trained with the rest of the players today (Wednesday),” said Highlanders coach Bongani Mafu.
Highlanders lost 1-0 to ZPC Kariba in the season opener before beating Tsholotsho 1-0 last Sunday at Barbourfields.
Hwange started the season with a 5-2 hammering by Triangle before they threw away a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 against ZPC at the Colliery last Sunday and are in desperate need of their first win of the season.
“That draw taught us a lesson that football is played over 90 minutes and it’s never over until the referee says so,” said Hwange coach Nation Dube.
“It’s not a must win for us, we don’t want to put ourselves under pressure because if we do that we’ll be prone to making mistakes but I want to emphasise that we play every game to win,” he said.
Dube has roped back Mebelo Njekwa as his assistant while Brian Njobvu, his assistant in the opening two matches, has been shipped off to the junior side.
In other matches on Friday, Whahwa host Harare City at Ascot Stadium in Gweru as they seek their first win of the season while Chicken Inn have a tricky tie against Tsholotsho.
ZPC Kariba entertain Buffaloes at Gwanzura, Dynamos play Dongo Sawmills at Rufaro while Chapungu, still without a win and goal this season, make the long trip to Triangle.
