THE coming in of Cosmas Zulu as head of Highlanders’ technical team brings to four the number of coaches who have coached the Bulawayo giants in the last 12 months.
Zulu was appointed as interim head on Thursday following the sacking of Bongani Mafu and he will be assisted by Amin Soma-Phiri and Melusi Sibanda.
After Kelvin Kaindu was relieved of his duties last season, Mark Mathe was thrust into the hot seat on temporary basis before Mafu took over.
Zulu is now the fourth man to be at the helm inside 12 months.
Highlanders chairman Peter Dube defended the latest appointments.
“Zulu and the other guys we have appointed have worked at Highlanders before. So they know very well our culture because they have always been in this family,” Dube said.
“We would not have wanted to be in this situation of changing coaches regularly but sometimes situations force us to do so.
“The team was not collecting points as we would have wanted and we had to act.
“In appointing the latest technical men, we also had to consider our budget and live within our means.”
Mafu leaves the club out of the championship race with 18 points behind leaders Chicken Inn.
Highlanders are also out of the Chibuku Super Cup.
