DYNAMOS got the psychological boost they needed ahead of their premiership clash with Highlanders who they beat 2-0 to clinch the inaugural President’s Cup at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.
A goal on either half by Kuda Kumwala and Quality Kangadze through a late penalty was enough for the Harare giants to upstage their opponents.
The first goal came when Highlanders failed to deal with what looked like a harmless cross which their goalkeeper could only parry on the path of an unmarked Kumwala who had the ease of tapping it home when Bosso defenders were at sixes and sevens.
Bosso could not find the formula to reply but could only make their case even worse when defender Mbongeni Ndlovu was red-carded for deliberate handling, an incident which allowed Dynamos to get their second goal through a spot kick by Kangadze.
Highlanders played second fiddle to Dynamos for much of the entire match and only came to life when they were one man down in the last 20 minutes of the lukewarm encounter.
Bosso had a glut of chances which came their way but failed to make effective use of any.
With their win, Dynamos walked away $7,000 richer while Highlanders received $5,000.
The two sides are set to meet in their reverse fixture of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League in Bulawayo with Dynamos seeking revenge for their 1-0 defeat to their rivals.
The President’s Cup followed the inauguration of newly-elected President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Sunday.
