Buffaloes 0-1 Dynamos
WASHINGTON Pakamisa scored in the eighth minute as Dynamos maintained top spot in the Castle Premiership after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Buffaloes at Sakubva Stadium in Mutare on Sunday.
Dynamos remained on top with 49 points with ZPC in second place after beating Triangle 1-0 on Saturday. ZPC have 47 points. Caps United who crushed troubled Highlanders 4-0 remained in third place with 45 points.
Hwange failed to take advantage of Bosso’s slip-up when they went down 2-1 to How Mine at the Colliery on Sunday. The coal-miners remain in fifth place with 38 points.
Meanwhile, it’s all coming together for Norman Mapeza at FC Platinum after a rocky start. On Saturday, Platinum handed Harare City coach Masimba Dinyero his first ever loss since he took over in July, to move to 38 points.
Platinum remain with a chance to end the season in the top four. A spot in the top four will earn them a place in the season-ending $250 000 Mbada Diamonds Cup.
The platinum miners scored through Walter Musona who prodded home a Ray Sibanda goal-bound effort into the net before second half substitute Donald Ngoma was set up by Zambian international Obrey Chirwa to head home the second.
“We played well in the first half and defended well in the second as we were under pressure. I am generally happy with the way the players are responding to my type of play.
“It will take some time but at least along the way we are picking up the points,” Mapeza said.
Mapeza replaced Lloyd Mutasa in July and won his first league match 1-0 away to Black Rhinos only to return home and lose 1-0 to Highlanders. While he engineered a 3-0 win over Bantu Rovers in the Chibuku Super Cup, he lost 2-0 to Triangle in the next league match.
He was kept waiting for his maiden home win after drawing 0-0 against Dynamos at Mandava before finally coming right two weeks ago with a 2-1 home win over Buffaloes.
As the battle for the top four place heats up, Chicken Inn made light work of Black Rhinos beating them 2-0 at Hartsfield via a Bheki Ncube double. That took Chicken Inn’s tally to 37 points, one behind Platinum in seventh place.
Bantu Rovers continued to fight for survival when they beat Chiredzi 1-0 at Chishamiso with veteran former Highlanders striker Obadiah Tarumbwa scoring the solitary goal.Advertisement
