TONDERAI Ndiraya suffered his first defeat since taking over as Dynamos coach, as his side was beaten 2-0 by the league’s bottom placed side Bulawayo Chiefs at Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday.
Chiefs, who were yet to register a win in seven matches, had to wait until the last 10 minutes of the match to get their goals.
The opener came from a penalty kick by Arthur Musiwa in the 81th minute before Michael Bhebhe doubled the lead at the stroke of fulltime.
Ndiraya had managed two wins and a draw in his first three matches since taking over from Lloyd “Mablanyo” Chigowe last month.
Ndiraya admitted that his side had been given a reality check by Chiefs.
“It was a reality check on our part. We are on a reconstruction process and after doing well in the last three matches, we thought we had hit the right chords but it was a very bad result to us,” Ndiraya said.
“We have to be truthful and analyse ourselves and rise from this setback.”
Ndiraya added: “We didn’t have a good game; the performance was bad as compared with the three games. The two goals we considered were a result of poor defending, all the goals we lacked basic defending applications,” he said.
In the other high profile match of the day, defending champions FC Platinum ended a run of two matches without a win by registering a crucial 2-0 win over ZPC Kariba at Mandava Stadium.
The result means FC Platinum temporarily occupy top spot of the PSL log table with 17 points from eight matches as they could be displaced by early pace-setters Chapungu and CAPS United who play Chicken Inn and Mushowani respectively on Sunday.
Midfielder Rahman Kutsanzira put FC Platinum in front with a cool finish from inside the box in in the 13th minute before the hosts wasted several good chances to increase their lead before the break.
At the National Sports Stadium, former Dynamos and Highlanders star Masimba Mambare scored a stoppage time winner to give Black Rhinos a second win in three days after coming from behind to register a 2-1 win over Hwange.
In other matches, Ngezi Platinum Stars and Yadah drew 1-1 at Baobab while Harare City edged out Triangle United 2-1.
