Dynamos out of Champions League

ZIMBABWE’S African Champions League representatives, Dynamos have crashed out of the prestigious club tournament following Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Democratic Republic of Congo’s AS Vita in the second leg of the first round in Kinshasa.
The Harare side went into the match needing at least a scoring draw to advance to the second round of the tough competition where they were set for an exciting date with Knowledge Musona’s Kaizer Chiefs from neighbouring South Africa.
Chiefs walloped Mozambique’s Ligamuculmana 3-0 with the Smiling Assassin netting a hat trick.
The Zimbabwean champions had been held to a 0-0 draw at home at the National Sports Stadium last weekend.
The defeat to AS Vita means Pasuwa has not won a Champions League match away from home since taking over from Lloyd Mutasa three seasons ago.
Crucially Pasuwa, who in his playing days was part of the dream campaign of 1998 which saw Dembare emerge as runners up in the tournament, has not managed to progress to the group stage of Africa’s premier club competition in all his attempts. This is despite winning the domestic league title a record three times.Advertisement
