Emotional Mambare makes Barboufields return

AN emotional Masimba Mambare returns to Barboufields Stadium on Sunday as an opponent.
He was labelled a traitor and Judas Iscariot when he crossed the floor to join Harare giants Dynamos.
Understandably, Mambare was on top of his game at the time, deciding key contests whenever Highlanders needed a saviour. He was a feted like a king at Bosso and without his power and influence, the Bulawayo giants looked vulnerable.
While at Dynamos he, didn’t really make an impact after he was plagued by injuries which kept him on the sidelines for a long time as if he was cursed. But to his credit, he waited patiently, as he battled the challenges to break into the team.
He has already become the torch-bearer of the Dynamos attack where he has become the leading goal scorer.
On Sunday, Mambare goes to the very stadium which he used to call home as an opponent as Highlanders welcome Dynamos in a potentially feisty Castle Larger Premiership tie.
He said week it would be an emotional match and wanted to prove a point.
“It will be a very emotional match,” said Mambare. “Obviously when you play against your previous team, you always have a point to prove.
“Although I want to prove, a point I am not putting myself under pressure. I am feeling relaxed and the team is in high spirits.
“Everyone is looking forward to the match. It’s a Zimbabwe derby.”
The Dynamos forward did not play a part in the reverse fixture at Rufaro in May when the Glamour Boys were defeated 2-0 for the first time since 2006 when they won the championship under the guidance of Methembe Ndlovu.
Highlanders, now under the guidance of Dutch coach Erol Akbay, were powered to victory by goals from young striker Prince Dube and Bruce Kangwa.
And Dynamos will be seeking revenge as they seek to bounce back into the championship race.
Both teams go into the match with their confidence high, with Highlanders coming from a 2-1 victory over a stubborn Border Strikers while Dynamos saw off Chapungu 1-0 in last weekend.
Highlanders lie third on the table with 38 points, six behind leaders FC Platinum while Dynamos are in fifth position with 35 points with eight matches remaining in the campaign.
Dynamos believe the title race remains very wide open and have set themselves a target of winning all their remaining matches of the campaign.Advertisement
