NEWLY promoted FC Hunters has moved to clarify its ownership structure to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) following concerns that Scottland owner Pedzayi Sakupwanya could own and control two teams in the league.
The concerns stemmed from the possibility that Sakupwanya’s other club, N’ombeyawora, could buy the FC Hunters’ franchise and inherit its top-flight status.
However, the deal failed to materialise after the PSL invoked regulations that bar an individual from owning or controlling more than one club in the same league.
In a letter addressed to the PSL, FC Hunters stated that the club’s ownership and governance had been placed under a three-pillar power structure, which it said is capable of steering the club competitively and administratively into the new season.
The club acknowledged that promotion into the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League required substantial sporting and administrative changes, which are already underway.
Concerns intensified in recent weeks after Cuthbert Chitima acquired a 40% stake in FC Hunters. Chitima is also the chairman of N’ombeyawora, raising fears of influence by Sakupwanya in contravention of PSL rules.
“If is further relevant to comprehend that as a legal entity, the corporate body has its own right, responsibility and the ability to act independently like signing contracts, allocating shares, owning property, incurring debts and being sued separately from its own owners and members,” the letter reads.
The club added that all changes had been formalised through official channels.
“Amendment or changes to the shareholding structures have been lodged with the Registrar of Companies and are existing under the Active Company E-Registrar.”
FC Hunters further stressed that control of the club remains unchanged.
“Hunters FC as a football club is still under full control and is owned by FC Hunters Marondera (PVT) Limited, as entrenched in the club constitution and the proof of ownership furnished to the PSL.”
As part of the restructuring process, Cuthbert Chitima has been appointed chairman, Anna Mpofu as treasurer and Terrence Tinashe Malunga as Chief Executive Officer.
FC Hunters, a football club based in Marondera, secured promotion to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League for the 2026 season.
