ZIMBABWE premiership football champions FC Platinum will travel to Madagascar to challenge CNaPS FC in the preliminary round playoff of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League playoff round, according to the draw released on Friday.
FC Platinum will be first to travel away to the island nation on the weekend of November 27 to 28 before playing host during the weekend of December 4 to 5.
Should it clear the first hurdle, the Zvishavane-based club will set up a first round proper tie with the winner of the other preliminary round clash between AS Otoho of Congo and Primero de Agosto of Angola
FC Platinum will be hoping for a successful return to the CAF Champions League after being eliminated at the preliminary round by this season’s semi-finalists Primeiro de Agosto on a heavy 5-1 aggregate score-line that included a 2-1 home defeat.
The Norman Mapeza-coached side has included five new faces in its 27-man squad from the team that successfully defended the Zimbabwean title.
Mapeza has strengthened his strike force after roping in the duo of Triangle forward Lameck Nhamo and Thomas Chideu.
The two returned home after unsuccessful spells in South Africa with Ajax Cape Town and Golden Arrows.
Also included in the squad are former Bulawayo City midfielder Ranson Pavari and ex-Dynamos and CAPS United defensive linkman Devon Chafa while defender Ian Nekati has returned after a loan spell at ZPC Kariba.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s Harare City, who was due to represent the nation in the CAF Confederation Cup, won’t be making an appearance due to financial constraints.
