FC Platinum kept their league title dream alive with a 2-1 victory over Bulawayo giants Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
Norman Mapeza’s men went into the match desperate for a victory after log leaders Dynamos had dropped points after they were held to a 1-1 draw by ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga on Saturday while Ngezi Platinum had overcome Bulawayo City 1-0.
With Chicken Inn-the other title contenders having stuttered to a 1-1 draw against Shabanie Mine, FC Platinum were under pressure to reduce the gap between them and the chasing pack.
To their credit they showed great character to come back from a goal down to win the match 2-1.
Highlanders had surged ahead early in the first half courtesy of midfielder Simon Munawa but the Platinum miners responded before the second half with veteran striker Mkokheli Dube levelling matters.
Ali Sadiki, who signed in the second transfer window from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), scored the winner in the second half.
Highlanders tried to come back in the late stages of the match but the visitors remained resolute to the end.
FC Platinum are now back on level with Ngezi Platinum on 56 points-one behind leaders Dynamos.
