FC Platinum, Saturday, stamped their league championship credentials when they claimed a narrow victory over Highlanders Football Club at Mandava Stadium.

The match was destined for a stalemate before second half substitute Gift Mbweti ensured the defending champions claimed the three points with a valuable goal when he scored in the first minute of added time.

The win ensured FC Platinum they finished the first half of the season at the summit with 44 points.

A game pitting two master tacticians in Norman Mapeza and Madinda Ndlovu was always going to be a tight affair.

Both teams approached the game cautiously with most of the play concentrated in the middle of the park with both teams trying to outwit their opponents.

Highlanders chose to sit back and would occasionally threaten the home side with quick counter attacks and were let down by poor finishing.

It was an afternoon of missed opportunities as both teams missed a glut of chances.

Norman Mapeza was the first to make changes in the second half bringing in Gift Mbweti for a lethargic Marshal Mudehwe and the change brought in life to the team.

In the 67th minute Mapeza again bolstered his attack, bringing in Never Tigere for Mkhokheli Dube and this jolted Madinda Nldovu into action, as he brought in Ozia Zibande for Newman Sianchali who had a bad game.

However, there was little that separated the two teams until a marauding run from Edwin Madhananga unlocked the Bosso defence and Mbweti sealed the win with a tap in after Madhananga`s shot at goal was deflected on to his path.

Elsewhere, Dynamos won by 2 goals to one over Nichrut Football Club. The Glamour Boys scored two quick goals in the first half through Blessing Moyo and Kuda Kumwala.

Nichrut tried to claw their way back into the game and only managed to reduce the deficit to a single goal.

In other matches, Herentals and Shabanie Mine settled for a one all draw while Bulawayo City edged Mutare City by one goal to nil.
