FC Platinum’s Mapeza dismisses league title talk

FC PLATINUM coach Norman Mapeza has refused to regard his side as title contenders as they prepare for Saturday’s league confrontation with Dynamos at Mandava Stadium.
Following an inconsistent start to the season, FC Platinum recovered to knit a run of 12 games without tasting defeat which landed them on third spot on the log with five points behind leaders Chicken Inn.
The platinum miners are just a point below their opponents Dynamos who in recent games have established themselves as serious title bidders.
With 27 points to play for before the season concludes, Mapeza is not reading much into this good run of form.
“Our focus is not on the league title. We are just playing to finish the season on a good position, probably in the top four.
“We are just taking each game as it comes and we will see what happens at the end of the season. Yes we have not been losing but that does not mean we are unbeatable,” he said.
Interestingly, FC Platinum are facing Dynamos who are the last team to beat them four months ago before this unbeaten streak.
Dynamos themselves have gone for 13 straight games without tasting defeat.
“Of course Dynamos are a strong side and that makes us fully aware of the kind of opponents we are facing,” Mapeza said.
“They were the last team to beat us when we visited them at Rufaro. So we are facing a very tough game.
“We have preparing hard for them and hopefully we will come out good on Saturday.”
FC Platinum have been surging ahead despite losing six key players to foreign clubs during mid-season.
