FRANCE: Munetsi nominated for top Ligue 1  award

ZIMBABWE international midfielder Marshall Munetsi has been recognised for his brilliant form this season after being nominated for the prestigious Marc-Vivien Foe Award which honours the best African player in the French Ligue 1.

Munetsi (26) who is in his fourth season at Stade Reims, has been turning heads with commanding midfield performances as he continues to flourish in Europe.

The versatile midfielder has six goals, his highest goal return since moving to Europe, while also chipping in with three assists playing in central midfield.

His consistent performances have led to speculation linking him with a move to the English Premier League where the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion and Bournemouth along with Burnley have reportedly been monitoring his progress.

Munetsi features on the 11-man Marc-Vivien Foe Award nominees list which also includes Achraf Hakimi, Chancel Mbemba, Habib Diallo, Hamari Traoré, Mama Baldé, Mohamed Camara, Salis-Abdul Samed, Séko Fofana, Terem Moffi, Yunis Abdelhamid.

The winner will be announced on May 30.

The Mabvuku-born star becomes the second Zimbabwean to be nominated for the award after compatriot Tino Kadewere.

A product of the Harare-based Friendly Academy Munetsi played for FC Cape Town, Baroka, Orlando Pirates in South Africa before leaving for France in 2019.
