Gems running out? Not quite, says Mbada Diamonds

SOME of the country’s surface deposits of diamonds may be showing diminishing returns, but one diamond company, at least, wants to commence exploration at another site in the country.
Mbada Diamonds, one of the seven firms that operate in the Marange region, says that is willing to spend hundreds of millions of dollars in order to explore and develop kimberlite deposits elsewhere.
Company chair Robert Mhlanga said that the firm is confident that that diamonds would be found in abundance in the Eastern Highlands district of Manicaland Province.
Mhlanga also said the Marange deposits have not yet been depleted and that alluvial diamonds could still be recovered in the area.
This was in contrast to comments made by other diamond companies four weeks ago, when they said that they lack the technology to reach the stones buried underground.
According to Diamond Intelligence, Mbada also announced that it would purchase a new processing plant.Advertisement
