HARARE’S Glen View 7 Primary School has emerged tops among schools run by the city council.
This is according to the November 2018 Grade 7 examinations results.
The school overtook Glen View 9 primary which has been on top in the last 5 years. Glen View 7 was number 5 the previous year.
Harare City Council runs about 32 primary schools whose pass rate in 2018 averaged 85.36 per cent.
Latest Council minutes from the Education, Housing and Community Services and Licensing Committee shows that the top five primary schools are Glen View 7 (97.6%), Glen View 9 (95.71%), Lytton (95.42%), Warren Park 6 (94.7%) and the fifth position is Budiriro 5 with 93.8 per cent.
In 2017, Lytton which was third position, retained the same position in 2018 while Budiriro 5, which was second in 2017 slipped to fifth.
Kuwadzana Primary School, which was position four in 2017, failed to make it in the top five in 2018.
The learners had sat for five subjects including Agriculture which was introduced in 2017.
The Committee attributed the good performance to infrastructural development, financial control and good administrative support so that schools could concentrate on key developments.
A Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) pass for Grade 7 is when a leaner obtains between 1-6 units.
The percentage Pass Rate by subjects entailed number of learners who passed all five subjects attaining 1-6 units per subject.
