WEST African giants Guinea bounced into contention for a place at the 2017 African Cup of Nations Finals in Gabon after staging a dramatic come back from behind to beat Malawi 2-1 at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Tuesday afternoon.
The win lifted them to second position in the Group L with five points but still behind Zimbabwe who walloped Swaziland 4-0 on Easter Monday to go top.
Swaziland also have five points but are below their two rivals because of goal difference.
Malawi took the lead in the 30th minute but Guinea equalised just after the half time break. Guinea then scored in the 60th minute to seal the win.
Guinea and Swaziland will meet in the next round of qualifiers in June while Zimbabwe host Malawi also in June.
Warriors coach Kalisto Pasuwa and his men will now have to ensure they collect at least four points from their next match against Malawi at home and get a positive result in Conakry in September for them to qualify for the biennial soccer show case for the first time since 2006.Advertisement
