WARRIORS skipper Willard Katsande and striker Knowledge Musona are confident of upsetting Guinea in Sunday’s Afcon 2017 Group L qualifier at Rufaro Stadium.
Over the years, Guinea has been an indomitable opponent for the Warriors with their last trip to Harare two years ago yielding a 1-0 win at the National Sports Stadium courtesy of a Ibrahim Traore’s goal.
Traore has now retired from international football at a time he was captain and recently ignored coach Luis Fernandez’s plea to reconsider his international career.
Two years ago in that visit to Harare, the German-based midfielder was part of a group that extended Guinea’s dominance over Zimbabwe who last beat them 22 years ago in a 1994 World Cup qualifier.
But this time around, there is a feel-good atmosphere around Zimbabwe, inspired by the kind of squad Warriors coach Kalisto Pasuwa summoned for this big assignment.
Pasuwa called up a strong squad highlighted by Europe-based players like Knowledge Musona, Costa Nhamoinesu, Nyasha Mushekwi and Matthew Rusike.
With Zimbabwe kicking off their Group L campaign with a 2-1 away victory in Malawi, Katsande feels they set themselves the tonic to slaughter their opponents both home and away.
