HIGH Court Judge, Justice Owen Tagu Friday acquitted controversial businessman, Wicknell Chivayo, who was facing fraud and money laundering charges related to the million dollar Gwanda Solar Project.
Justice Tagu ruled that Chivayo properly excepted to the charges levelled against him at the lower courts, adding that the charges were contrived.
Chivayo landed in the dock after he purportedly abused $5,2 million which was meant for the project.
The state alleged that no meaningful project was carried out on the site but the upper court ruled it was improper for the state to raise criminal charges against the businessman as the case was rather a civil one.
