Hondora, 33, of Southview Extension and Mhaka, 29, of Mkoba 3, robbed Robson Vunganai , 29, the chief executive officer of Mashmo Land Investment Trust of $ 1 300 and a Samsung Galaxy phone.
Magistrate, Judith Taruvinga, initially sentenced the pair to 12 months in prison. She, however, conditionally suspended three months. A further three months were suspended on condition each pays $950 restitution to Vunganai.
The duo had denied the charges saying Vunganai owed them $150 which he paid but were surprised when he proceeded to make a police report.
Prosecutors told the court that on January 9 this year at around 1PM, Vunganai parked his car outside a supermarket in the city centre.
“The two accused persons disembarked from their vehicle and proceeded to complainant’s car,” prosecutors said.
“Mhaka opened the complainant’s car door and grabbed him by the collar and groin area. Hondora joined in and demanded his cash from the complainant.”
When Vunganai told the duo that he had no money on his person Hondora started searching Vunganai’s pockets and took $ 1 300 cash and a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge before the two drove away.
Vunganai reported the matter at Gweru Central police station leading to the pair’s arrest.Advertisement
