Harare City 3-1 Monomotapa
HARARE City closed the gap on leaders Highlanders to one point after they thumped Monomotapa 3-1 in a Castle Lager Premier League match at Rufaro on Thursday.
City now have 28 points, one behind Highlanders who fell 1-0 to Chicken Inn on Wednesday.
City’s result also pushed Dynamos into fourth place after they lost 3-2 to Buffaloes on Wednesday while Chicken Inn are third win 26 points.
Monoz went ahead in the 41st minute lead when Obey Mwerahari converted a Zvikomborero Biseki cross from the right after they had caught City defenders at sixes and sevens.
But the second half belonged to Bigboy Mawiwi’s men as they hit back through Phenias Bamusi and James Jam, both beneficiaries of poor marking by Monoz defenders.
Then Osbourne Mukuradare scored his eighth goal of the season in the 67th minute when he headed home a Jam cross to seal victory.
Speaking after the game Mawiwi said: “I knew we were going to win the match even after going down first. I have quality players who work very hard.
“Once we manage to get pas Hwange over the weekend, then out confidence will grow even bigger but the season is a long way to go.”
Meanwhile, at Luveve Stadium 10-men Triangle held on for a precious away point as they drew 1-1 with How Mine, but remained deep in the relegation zone with 13 points and in 15th position on the log standings.
How Mine have 21 points and are seventh on the standings.
Veteran striker Limited Chikafa shot the visitors into the lead in the 60th minute before Josphat Phiri netted the equaliser four minutes from time.
Triangle finished the match with 10 men after Blessing Mwamuchera was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 34th minute.
