ZIMBABWE giants, Highlanders and Caps United fired blanks away to premiership newcomers while the championship chasing platinum mining teams experienced mixed fortunes in Round 22 of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matches played Saturday.
Highlanders were held to a goalless draw by Nichrut in Gweru while Caps United also failed to score in a nil all draw with Herentals.
Second placed Ngezi Platinum secured a point in a 1-1 draw against hosts Chicken Inn although not enough to allow the Mhondoro Ngezi side to keep pressure on their premiership cousins FC Platinum who collected maximum points at home against Chapungu.
After Saturday’s round of matches, FC Platinum take their lead to 52 points from 22 matches while Ngezi dropped a further two points behind with 48 points from the same number of games.
Chicken Inn are positioned number three with 41 while Caps United and Highlanders are 4 and 5 with both on 36 points although the latter have a game in hand.
In another match played Saturday, Black Rhinos beat Bulawayo City 2-0.
