HIGHLANDERS coach Bongani Mafu believes the 1-1 home draw against Harare City and the fighting spirit shown by the boys marks a turning point in the Bulawayo giants’ Castle Premiership season.
Bosso play second placed Chicken Inn at Barbourfields this Saturday.
They were were down 1-0 at the end of 90 minutes but, with eight minutes of added time, fought for an equaliser and eventually rewarded when Gabriel Nyoni beat City goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube from the penalty spot with two minutes to play.
Earlier, Bosso had missed a penalty when Dube saved from his opposite number Ariel Sibanda.
“I think the fighting spirit was great, we fought all the way and we managed to score. That is the spirit that is needed,” said Mafu.
“We lost two matches at home against Chapungu and Caps United (1-0 both) because we conceded first and we could not fight back.
“But we spoke about it and you could tell the response from the Harare City match.”
City had opened the scoring through William Manondo in the 27th minute.
The draw, which followed their 3-0 thrashing of Flame Lily in Harare last Wednesday, saw Highlanders stay in sixth place with 14 points, six away from their weekend opponents Chicken Inn and there away from defending champions Dynamos.
Nyoni scored his second goal in two matches and Mafu is pleased.
“When strikers start scoring, things will be fine. It’s everybody’s duty to score like you saw in the other matches where defenders scored but when you then have a goal or two from strikers, then you are in the right direction,” the former Zimbabwe Saints coach said.
Veteran midfielder Mthulisi Maphosa is back in training with speedy youngster King Nadolo and could be given a run out against the Gamecocks.
