HIGHLANDERS, How Mine, Tsholotsho and newly-promoted Bulawayo City will have a chance to put to test their pre-season preparations so far when they clash in the Bulawayo Football Festival tournament slated for Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
The festival, which excludes Chicken Inn, would be a 30-minute-aside tournament apart from the final which would be played for 40 minutes in either half.
All four teams are expected to parade their new signings with most attention on Highlanders whose new coach Elroy Akbay arrived in the country this week.
Highlanders chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede however hinted at the Dutchman not sitting on the bench while assessing his team from the stands.
His assistants Amini Sima-Phiri and Cosmas Zulu would be in charge of the team.
“This is a perfect opportunity for the head coach to have a look at his team in a game situation. He is likely to be monitoring the team from the grandstands and that will give him the real picture of how the squad is like,” Gumede said.
“The coach has been with the team at training since he arrived on Tuesday and now he wants to see his boys playing games.
“Business is now on full throttle and we hope to continue like that. As a club we are happy things are taking shape and I am sure by the time the season begins, we will be ready for bigger challenges.”
On Friday, Highlanders embarked on a team-building exercise when they played top franchise Matebeleland Tuskers in a T20 cricket match at Queens Sports Club.
But on Sunday they will be under scrutiny to gauge if they are to be considered for silverware this season.Advertisement
