HIGHLANDERS will seek to keep the pressure on the Castle Lager Premiership leaders when they host financially struggling Caps United at Barbourfields on Sunday.
Sitting on fourth position with 10 points, five from leaders Chicken Inn and four from defending champions Dynamos, Highlanders scrounged a 1-0 away win over Dongo Sawmills last weekend while Caps played a 1-1 draw against ZPC Kariba.
Highlanders coach Bongani Mafu has chosen to remain mum on his biggest match since taking over at the start of the year, remembering very well that his last outing at Barbourfields yielded a 1-0 loss to Chapungu.
That was followed by a brawl from the team’s hard-to-please fans as they demanded his immediate departure, but the executive stood by the coach.
But the fans went quiet after last Sunday’s away win to Dongo and will be back at BF on Sunday to push the team forward for their second consecutive win.
From six matches, Bosso have won three all by 1-0 margins, drawn once and lost twice, clearly showing their strikers are failing to find the target.
Caps coach Mark Harrison is aware of the task at hand as they make their second trip to Bulawayo after an aborted one against How Mine on April 2.
On that day, Caps had arrived a day earlier but the players refused to play due to unpaid allowances and salaries.
The club was eventually fined $1,200 for bringing football into disrepute and the game awarded to How Mine on a 3-0 scoreline.
Last year, Caps were mauled 4-0 by Bosso at BF.
Said Harrison: “It’s obviously a tough game for us, but we are going there to fight for a positive result.”
On Saturday, How Mine welcome Hwahwa to Barbourfields as the gold miners hope to get their campaign back on track after losing 1-0 to Chicken Inn last Saturday.
Elsewhere, ZPC welcome Flame Lily to Gwanzura.
On Sunday, Buffaloes welcome Chapungu to Sakubva while Hwange will be chasing their first win of the season when they engage Dongo Sawmill at the Colliery.
Former leaders Triangle play Harare City at Gibbo hoping to rediscover their lost mojo after losing 1-0 to Flame Lily last weekend.
