Hippo Valley’s Chunga still defiant

DESPITE being disbanded, newly-promoted Hippo Valley coach Moses Chunga is defiant and wants the side to play premiership football this year.
Tongaat Hulett, the owners of Hippo Valley dissolved the team citing viability challenges as they also have to sponsor Triangle who are already in the league.
The Hippo Valley franchise has since been put for grabs and Chunga has started work for the new season.
“We are hopeful we will play in the PSL this year and I have told my players that they should report for pre-season,” said Chunga.
“We worked hard to earn premiership status and that cannot be put to waste. For me it is game on as I have finished scouting the players I want this season. I have communicated with new players and I want us to enjoy football.”
Chunga said he hopes to retain most of the players who helped the team gain promotion into the Premier League.
Local companies in Chiredzi are said to be ready to take over the Hippo Valley franchise which would be ceded to the community.
The Chiredzi community is anticipating the much-awaited Lowveld derby between Hippo Valley and Triangle.Advertisement
